Captain Raymond Pugh


Capt. Ray was born in Currituck, just a stone throw from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Growing up, he fished the area with his father and grandfather who were both hunting and fishing guides. His father even took the governor of North Carolina fishing and has a plaque proclaiming him a Tarheel. Fishing both fresh and saltwater, he has acquired a special knowledge and a few tricks that helps him to excel at his craft.


Ray has fished the ocean and inland waters from New York down to the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. In the mid-80's, Ray decided to settle in Nags Head and fine-tune his passion of fishing. The ocean and sounds of the Outer Banks hold numerous species of fish, which he catches all year long. In 2003, he started fishing professional career and was invited to join the Pro Staff team of RL Custom Lures and the guide program with Pure Fishing. In 2006, Ray signed on with Pfluger, Shakespeare, and Penn as a field representative and uses their quality tackle daily. He also that same year became an IGFA certified captain for those of you looking to set a new world or line class record. During 2009, Ray joined the Pro Staff of Lowrance Electronics, Red Buoy Tackle, Cape Horn boats and Tournament Grade Tackle. Over the past several years, Ray has competed in the American Striper Association, Striper Tournament Trail, and the Wal-Mart FLW Striper Series. In 2008, he started fishing the Southern Kingfish Association in North Carolina, where he qualified every year for the SKA National Championship finishing in the top twenty each year. In 2009, the Fin-Nagle fishing team won the 9th Annual Onslow Bay King tournament. He’s been in several magazines relating to his experience with Striped Bass and also has been featured on the television program, In-Fisherman.
